The two parties have selected their nominee for president and vice-president.

Who are you voting for?

As usual, neither appeals to me, but I will not vote for Hillary.

I am not sure either party has what it takes. Right now, my crystal ball says these might be the tickets! What are some of the other possibilities?

Unfortunately, I think your crystal ball is probably correct.

I'm no fan of Hilliary Clinton, and although Obama seems to be a bright and articulate guy, we know virtually nothing about him, and less of what he actually stands for.

I really don't like McCain. He's the kind of guy Bush kept calling Kerry, a candidate who changes positions according to which way the wind blows. He's conservative for the conservatives one day, and moderate for the independents the next. When I look at his voting record, I get completely turned off. As to Rice. I find her an extremely bright, ultra conservative, right wing, vindictive, mediocre Secretary of State, so how could I consider voting for her.

Hopefully there's some uncovered gem out there, who will consider the issues carefully without the need to follow an ideology, and will work to do what's best for the American people, who will heed the call to run. Of course, that's not going to happen, but one can hope that the Repubs and Dems can put up two pairs a whole lot better than these.

Hugo Chavez for President?
Vincente Fox?

Hugo Chavez for President?
Vincente Fox?
Let's see...Chavez is a tyrant pig who the Venezuelan poor love even though he economically rapes them on a daily basis. I have had the misfortune of visiting Venezeula's capital of Caracas and visited the "valley." In my entire life, I have never seen such abject, disheartening poverty. As Chavez and his buddies get richer, the poor who love him get poorer. They have no idea what kind of person they are supporting.

Vincente Fox...hummm...a man with no respect for his people. His idea of fixing the economy of Mexico is sending the Mexican people to illegally enter our country, work for minimum wage or less, under the table, and send their earnings back to Mexico to prop up the Fox administration.

Last year, Mexico received a record $20 billion in remittances from illegal mexican workers living in the US. That is almost equal to Mexico's 2005 income from oil exports and dwarfs their tourism revenue.

In addition, the other thing he does well, is complain that we are unfair to Mexico, and the millions of illegal Mexicans in this country, for wanting to secure our borders, and stop illegals from entering our country and illegally sending our dollars out of the country to Mexico.

I'd rather put up Genghis Khan.

Yeah but with Fox we would not need to bother with that pesky fence in Texas now would we?

Night all!

That pretty much sums it up.

And, Condi, Condi, she's our gal, if she can't do it, no one can.

I'm keeping my counsel for now ... not one of these listed will make it to the final tickets I hope (each for different reasons). Look for a few dark horses to surface (mixing metaphors)...after all, who would have expected Martinez to head the RNC?

deangreenhoe

I'm not voting either of those tickets. Is that all we got?

I think what's really sad about all this is we're seeing much more diversity represented in the front runners, which I think is great, but they are all still wrong, wrong, wrong!

Maybe Fox could develop another series, do a political talent search of previous unknowns, call it "American Candidate."

Yes, I am desperate for ideas.

These may be the potential tickets as viewed from today however if this pairing comes to pass it gives me hope that there is a strong 3rd party candidate out there somewhere that can use the anti-establishment vote to get us out of having to pick between these two bad choices.

jfrenaye

On the Martinez and RNC. Agreeed, a surprise. However, it makes sense. Looking at congressional races across the nation, the black vote stayed pretty much in the democratic line. Michael Steele (ex MD GOP Chair, current Lt. Gov, and losing candidate for US Senate) was rumored to be in line.

I believe that if there is a swing vote to be had, it might be the hispanics--and in light of that, Mel Martinez probably has a decided bit of leverage. I imagine the illegal immigrant issue will be huge in 2008 and the hispanic population is right in the thick of that fiasco

Isn't is sad that instead of ideaologies being debated on a national and local level in "todays" political climate, we get polling-based positions?

What am I saying?... I'm a simpleton.

In 2008, we're going to be subjected to the most over-whelming assault of negative advertising designed to avoid debate on the real issues affecting John Q Public, that any of us has yet seen.

The Billions of $ in political PAC money and foreign contributions to campaigns will swamp us!

Maybe I should say the Trillions of $, because that's not a far-reaching supposition!

Billionaire terrorists want us wallowing in the mud. Nickle dictators want us wallowing in the mud. Our Asian "allies" want to command our government.

Do we have a chance against this onslaught?

I think not, with Hillary and John Mc as the standard bearers of the dominant parties!:o

I will vote for Hillary.

BTW, Did you notice the change of strategy with Rice?
Now she is Condi! Someone is trying to sooth that image...

RJ, I think we're "diddling" because the current administration is doing such a poor job, and in many of our opinions, putting our young people in harms way without a plan, and without the necessary support they deserve.

I think it is very much an "All American" thing to do, to "diddle" to make things better for our county, and the wonderful young men and women defending it all over the world.

Criticizing our government, and pushing them to do the right thing is decidedly American, and decidedly one of the most patriotic things citizens can do. Theodore Roosevelt said, "Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the president."

Well said, Ned.

My reference above, to diddling, was meant to observe that, in a military action or set of actions, the leadership must be decisive and forceful to achieve maximum results with minimum loss. I do not believe we're seeing this in the current conduct of the war on terrorism.

I thought they only dug up the dead VOTERS not the dead candidates!
In the last 20 years in Philadelphia, 2 dead people were elected to office. Both had died within 30 days of the election and were not replaced by living candidates. People were appointed to serve the term.

So I gather the third choice, "None of the Above" is ahead in this poll. That would be my vote. I hope there will be someone I can vote for when the time comes, as I cannot get myself to pull the lever (we still have the old machines) for any of them as of now.

Gracie Allen's Classic Recipe for Turkey

1 large turkey

1 small turkey

Take the two turkeys and put them in the oven.
When the little one burns, the big one is done.

Actually I am excited about this. Any of the Dems on the ticket is better then what we have now and what is on the right side. And no Ms Clinton is not top on the list but I will take her over any of the right-winged republicans with the exception of Ron Paul. But even he is too conservative in my view-just like his view of this occupation.
OK so here come the punches.

Well, I'd agree with you there. I'd probably consider Aruba, although I have loved visiting Costa Rica. Personally, I was also considering Scotland. I actually like cold weather.
