OK, a fresh thread to put in the issues and problems. Here is a synopsis of what was corrected so far.
Forums should be sorting properly and you should see the newest first and scroll down to see older. However in the threads themselves, I suggest setting your profile option to the OLDEST first. That way you can begin reading at the beginning of the thread (post 1) and then scroll through to the end. Of course you can use the icon to LAST READ POST to fast forward your way there
Permissions have been adjusted and you should be able to see all you are allowed to see and not see what you are not supposed to see.
Time out issue was addressed. Now times out after one hour of inactivity
Some minor aesthetic issues have been addressed. Thanks to TammySF for her help.
Still on the list to do:
--widen the display so it shows full width
--redo and re initialize the poster "Titles"
Just a few tips:
--you have to turn on your PM ability through your USER CP
--you can modify how many threads you see in your display in there too
--In general, snoop around in there and you will see a bunch of stuff you can do.
--I like to set my account to subscribe to every thread I post in. Then I can use QUICK LINKS and immediately see all my threads
--I like to use the NEW POSTS to see the thereads that have new posts since I last checked--this is across the entire board. Then I either read them or I use the QUICK LINKS and then MARK FORUMS AS READ and that resets the counter for me!

Hey John,
I mentioned this in the Tripadvisor thread but rather than run away with that one even more I thought I'd post it here. I'm pretty sure that vBulletin lets you add more smilies so I'm posting some here in case you want to add them. Although frankly I think the naked butt one could be dangerous with Deano on the board.

As I find more that might be interesting etc I'll post them. I'm looking for some travel-related ones.

Respectfully, one of the nice things about FlyerTalk is the small number of emoticons. (And unfortunately, even those are somewhat needed because people don't know how to write/read sarcasm.)
But please deliver us from dancing bananas, purple and green things hitting each other with kegs, and wiggling butts. This is not (?) kindergarten.

I am trying to add my avatar back. My niece resized it for me and now it is the correct size but I cannot uncheck the do not use avatar and reseting did nothing. Can any one help? the photo I want is on my profile all right - and that one is the right size.
thanks....I am no computer whiz for that stuff. Too impatient with tech stuff....just want it to work NOW!!
Kairho I think those are pillows - not kegs....but that is a thought.....

Susan I tried playing around with my own avatar and changing it seems to work so I'm not sure what's going on with yours. The only 2 things that I can think of are that 1) your settings may still need to be tweaked and I think that's something one of the techies may need to do or 2) your avatar might be the right size in terms of pixels but not kb? I don't know. If you want you can email the avatar to me and I can have a look at it just to check.
And yes those are pillows. I can always use the smilies myself by just linking to them but thought that it might be nice to have a larger array available for public use. I think the board settings can be changed to limit the number of smilies used per posting. I know that on some forums I've read some of the posters can go overboard with them and you get posts with 30 smilies and nothing else.
But you can bet that any day I land a big account or beat out one of the big box mega-marts I'm going to be using the butt dance one!

My niece resized it for me...it fits on Cruise Critic and they are the same requirements. I will try again tomorrow....after I reboot my computer...it has been on all day and maybe it is too tired....
Like your signature - I had a poster like that when I worked in an office.....it always got a good chuckle especially when I was behind all these piles of paper!!

This is not (?) kindergarten.
It's not? Well, not all of the time.
If I can't have my smilies I'll be crucified since almost everything I write is sarcastic.
Oh, and too late on the naked butt thingy, Annette. I already copied it into my documents for future use, "emergency" situations only.

Well there are times when a good smiley is definitely called for.

Susan--
I was able to grab the photo from your profile and upload it to your avatar. It is a little small (50X50) and can be bigger. But when I tried it got all fuzzy. If you have a higher resolution photo, I can resize it for you--just email it to me.
As to the emoticons. I tend to agree with Phil. Maybe there is a place for one or two cute ones, but to have a plethora would be too much IMHO--elspecially the larger ones!

Okay, if answered previously I apologize, but how do you uncheck the don't use avatar radio button once it's checked? Since my avatar wasn't being displayed I figured I'd check that option to delete it, save my profile and then reupload mine and now I can't uncheck the darn thing!
I uploaded it without issue to my profile, but can't seem to hop over this hurdle....any suggestions?

Have you tried checking one of the options below that (Upload from computer or something like that)?

Misalf--
In your USER CP there is an option for EDIT AVATAR. GO there. Below the DO NOT USE AVATAR, there is another box you want to check the CUSTOM AVATAR button and then upload your photo from your computer unless it is on the web somewhere.
Not to all--I find that if you use google images, you can save the search results as whatever and they tend to be perfect avatar size.

That's what I thought, John, and before I checked the "do no use" radio button that option was there -- now it isn't and I can't get it back, since it won't allow me to uncheck the radio button.
What am I missing?
PS...Dean, Miss Z is HOT!

John whatever you did to avatar worked - it is there now.
Missalf - that is what happened to me. I gave it up last night and John used the pic from my profile and put it in.
Very frustrating when you cannot uncheck a stupid toggle button!!
This software has a ton of features, it is the software we used on one of the koi boards, John if you need help yell. I don't know as much as some but the fellas that were the tech admins there know it inside and out.
You can add tons of smilies, and those that do not like them can choose to not see them in the preferences I believe.
Another great item is the fact that you can place your cursor over a subject and see the first several lines of the post. The PM system on VBoards is great, you can download your messages to a text file, it is a great way to keep those that you want to have forever.
If you choose to view the boards via 'New Posts' there is no way that I know of to then move to the next thread, you need to go back to the listing. But if you are one that reads all the new posts, or tries to do so, the pages will re-populate when you leave the board and then return.
There should be a way to stay logged in as long as you wish, I never logged in and out at the koi board, tho that may have been an option for the smods or admins, but I do not think that is the case.
I am just now in the midst of moving the new koi board to Invision, how's that for a coincidence? But if you have a question, John just yell, Dale will most likely know the answer.

Does the new software do away with the concept of the 'Display Name'? I'm seeing my user name (which is equal to my e-mail address) now appear at the top of posts I've authored. In this era of prolific transmission of canned meat products, that just seems to be asking for trouble, especially as the new features are supposed to allow you to control which forum users can send you e-mail.
What do you think - do I need to re-register to get a new user name?
jfrenaye
11-14-2006, 12:52 PM
The only way that would have happened is if you entered the email address in the USER name field. Send me a PM to the User name you would like and I can change it for you. Remember to sign in with USER name not your email address.
This was not a change from before.

Another glitch I'm running into (thanks for fixing the "sort by posting date" issue) is now I go into a forum and read the new stuff - click "mark this forum read" they all go from bold to regular. But the next time I go in the same posts are bolded again without any new posts.
Not earth shattering but annoying

Barb--
Where is this mark forum as read icon? I do all my reading ant hen use the QUICK TOOLS up top and select MARK FORUMS AS READ and it takes care of the entire forum and all areas.

Are you talking about going to "Quick Links" and then clicking on "Mark Forums Read?"
babs275

No - I go to the Forum Tools on the actual forum. That way I can go onto the others that have unread posts.

OK I see it and it worked fine for me. I went into the CB+ forum and could see that you posted another message. I Thread Tooled it to mark as read and all the topics in that forum went to regular (not bold)
I went to the NEW THREADS and your post showed as read (not bold)
Not sure I am understanding

If you use your back button I think it does not clear the cache (not sure if that is the right word or maybe it is cookies) but if you navigate to a different page via a link it does.

Bzzzt - try again :p
I use "Forum Tools" "mark as red" - they get marked read.
I leave the forum - even close the browser and when I return - all of todays posts are fresh and new never read.
Leave it to me to have this glitch!

You're right. This tool is not working at this time. We'll put this on our next fix list. We still have quite a few we're still working on. Thanks for pointing this out to us.

Barb and Ned- I can't get it to replicate for me. I went into a forum and could see that there were new posts in the Delta cheap air thread. I Forum Tooled and Mark Forum as read. They all lost the bold as expected. I closed the window, opened a different site. Closed the site, opened the forums again, and went back to the forum and could see the Delta deal and it was not bold as I would expect. Barb--I will look at my profile settings and send them to you maybe it is a personal setting in the profile
