The Rev. Anthony Mercieca, 72, described several encounters that he said Foley might perceive as sexually inappropriate, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported. They include massaging Foley while the boy was naked, skinny-dipping together at a secluded lake in Lake Worth and being nude in the same room on overnight trips.
Mercieca said there was one night when he was in a drug-induced stupor and there was an incident but he couldn't clearly remember, the newspaper reported.[/b]
How demented can this be. The priest THINKS that Foley might have perceived a naked massage, skinny dipping wiht your priest, and sleeping nude together as inappropriate??? WTF????
Sorry, the priest was in a drug induced stupor and and he cannot recall the incident???
Boy are the woes of the Catholic Church rushing back now or what?

Pretty scary!! WTF is right on the mark.
What I don't understand is why the same church which says it stands for family values, and the sanctity of human life, hides and protects these perverts, thus jeopardizing the church and the church's message. It's completely irrational. Apparently, in today's parlance, "They just don't get it!"
It reminds me of a synagogue board in France, which did a similar job of hiding the truth for several years, about a cantor who they eventually stopped protecting. He served 2 years for "corrupting minors."

They are still living in the Dark Ages.

The scary part about this (as well as all the other incidents) is they keep coming to light -- it makes you worry what horrors we haven't heard about yet -- and how long will they continue to happen to youngsters.
So sad.

I heard the priest being interviewed this morning. He acted and sounded like their relationship was "lovely". He is an idiot and a whack job. Sick, sick, sick!

Kinda makes you wonder about Foley's party as well as the church. Seems both have a knack for doing the opposite of what they preach. What bothers me is that by the position they hold, people trust them.

I will not be quick to condemn his party...there are many admirable republicans just as there are admirable democrats--and sleazeball democrats as well.
I think it is a sad day when this type of thing is "mainstreamed". I am more irritated with the church--the wealthiest organization in the world and they settle these "problems" left and right.

Yes there are slezeballs in every party but when a party keeps taking about "family values" ...

One man does not represent the party.

Just like 'the man' in DC does not represent the USA <_<

Agreed...
The only reason to condemn Foley's party, or at least his party's leadership in Congress, is if they actually had "real" knowledge of what was going on and did nothing, or "reasonably" credible information of what might have been going on and did nothing to investigate it. It appears that both are true, but personally, I haven't seen enough evidence yet to assume either is true. I've seen the accusations, but not the proof, at this point.

The Catholic Church isn't the only church that has child abuse problems. Since they are the only church that has a celibacy requirement, it tends to harbor homosexual priests, who don't stay celibate.
As for Foley, he should be thown out and anyone who harbored him should go as well. But if all the skeletons in both parties gets opened up, it will be the end of business as usual in our government.
And maybe that would be for the best.

I would opine that any organization a large, old, and moneyed as the Catholic Church is bound to have people in positions of power that are less then stellar in their morals and ethics. It is human nature to protect one's own.
