When you read this article, as a US citizen, you get a sense of Deja Vu. You almost get the impression that TSA and BAA are being run by the same person. The article uses terms such "people remaiin confused," "inconsistency," "too much posturing and not enough real security," and "security...leaves something to be desired" to describe BAA. That sounds exactly how many (including me) have described TSA.

What's going on here? Why can't these government types use a modicum of intelligence when doing their job?

"Irritation" over UK airport security measures

People remain confused about current airport security regulations and feel the whole situation has been badly handled.

A poll by the International Airline Passengers Association reveals a "sense of irritation", along with some resignation to ever-tighter security at UK airports.

While the majority of members accepted that additional steps should have been taken where deemed appropriate to the level of threat, just 29% of respondents felt that the imposition of additional security measures had been well-handled, with the main criticism being one of inconsistency in the application of regulations.

More than half (52%) felt confused about what they can take with them following revised hand baggage restrictions. This confusion also extended to what may or may not be allowed in hand baggage on travellers' return flights to the UK.

"Too much posturing and not enough real security" was a typical comment from an IAPA member.

IAPA spokesman Jonathan French said: "With BAA placing adverts in the national press this week about what the rules are at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, this just begs the question for some travellers as to if, how and why other airports differ.

"There is also a nagging feeling that security at some overseas airports leaves something to be desired, and that this potentially leaves the 'back door' open for flights into the UK...
