With apologies to Ned & John, I don't think your states approach Michigan for bitter and vitriolic political campaigns. The race for governor is a "straight-through to the General Election" sprint for one Democrat and one Republican. Those candidates have already spent nearly $22 million to "influence" voters. $22 million! If either one sends me a check for $25 and a bottle of George Dickel, they can have my vote. Otherwise I simply won't vote in that race because both candidates are snakes.
The race for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination is a toss up between a life-long pol, and a practicing Baptist preacher. One's tired, the other may be a zealot.
My responsibilities as a voter have always been important to me. But this campaign season scares the begeezus out of me.

It is sort of a case of "lesser of two evils," huh RedJim?
I will vote because it's my nature to do so, but again I find myself holding my nose all the way to the polls. I'm resigned to choosing the disappointing familiar as opposed to the scarier unknown. Over here on the west side of the state some of us are pretty sick of having the Amway thugs run things like their own fiefdom. I wish they'd just go back to buying all of their influence. <_<

I agree with both of you. It is going to be a tough choice. Even the primaries I am having a difficult time choosing. I know too many of the candidates for local election and hate choosing sides.
I, also, noticed that all of us have dogs as an avatar. Must have something to do with Michigan??

Dogs are loyal and transparent, Dena. But you knew that.

I can't imagine the influence they've bought, dean. Must be staggering.

In America you can go on the air and kid the politicians, and the politicians can go on the air and kid the people.

My choice early in life was either to be a piano-player in a whorehouse or a politician. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference.

I'm stuck at our local fair (working with 4-H'ers) so I'm taking my turn for the Dems today from 2-4pm.
Wish me luck!!

Good luck, Mary, 'cause you're gonna need it. :P
Just kidding. I'm not really a party animal but I know what it's like to lean to the left in a sea of uptighty righties. In my part of the state you are safer registering as a communist than a Dem. I pretty much keep a low profile and my mouth shut, especially at family reunions. B)
Have fun at the fair!

Dean,
I was released from Fair Jail and get to spend a few hours in air-conditioned comfort before my Democratic volunteering. YAY! :)
I know what you mean, it's a see of W's up here. Of course, I have such a hard time keeping my mouth shut but I do try to at least be dipomatic!!

The Detroit News reported yesterday that Granholm/DeVos spending had reached $38 million to claim the Governor's Chair. This is with five weeks to go before the general election.
I'm starting to sense that special interest groups are blatantly buying Michigan state government away from residents.
And I don't like it.

I was in Michigan for my first ever visit a couple of weeks ago, and lemme tell you, I got so tired of the Granholm and DeVos commercials that I thought I was gonna pluck out my eyes.
I always thought that down here in Louisiana we had the corner on nasty politics. I now see I was mistaken.
Thankfully today is our election for insurance commissioner and secretary of state, and as much as I hate to do it this way, I am not voting FOR someone, but AGAINST people. No one running in either race has any merit, but I have to go with the lesser of all evils. It's sad that it has come to this.

But Jim, "just watch us in FIVE years. You're going to be blown away."
Sorry, you have to live here (and endure the same ugly TV commercials over and over and over and over and over and over...) to appreciate that one.

...and speaking of spending money, one of the entertaining aspects of this ordeal is the fact that DeVos is one of the heir apparents of the Amway corporation fortune. I'm sure there is no need to go into the controversial aspects of that.
So, in an attempt to boost their image (and DeVos's by proxy), Amway has released a series of commercials showing lots of happy, squeaky clean employess gushing about how wonderful the company is. But my favorite one ends with this slightly menacing looking Guido saying into the camera,
"Yeah, I work for Amway. You got a problem with that?"
I'm not kidding.

Indeed!
B) The only reason most of us here haven't done that, is because we want to SEE the Detroit Tigers in the post season, John. Otherwise, Ray Ban would be be setting sales records selling to newly-minted invalids.
