I can fully understand progression, but I don't think the general public understands how the people that are being taken by emient domain are treated..
They don't walk away with a wad of cash, most of the time they don't even get enough to buy another home within the same area or even a comparable home to the one taken..
I had to fight fiercely to get what I should have been offered to begin with..
But I had to go all the way to do it..
Boy could I get on a roll on this one!!

2,000 homes were destroyed for the new runway :o Plus businesses, churches and such, that is quite an impact on a community. We are having airport pains in our area and I am hoping it all fails. If not, others, like Cindy, will lose their homes and farm land.
Losing your home and land for the best of your community has to be a double egded sword. Sadly, often, all options are not reviewed and when it isn't your home or land, the Let It Happen attitude often prevails. In the town of Sonoma, CA, they need to build a new hospital. The plan is to take a farmers land, outside of town, to build the new hospital. It is on the current ballot and will be voted on shortly. However, just this week, a new plan came forward, which is much more workable and puts the new hospital in a better location. Why the $#%^ wasn't that looked at before??? The cost for the vote and the election has to continue, but apparently it can be reversed after election day. What a freaking waste and another case of politicans botching things up AGAIN. At least the good news is that farmer, whose family has owned the land since the 1800's gets to keep it and hopefully they will turn it over to a trust so it can never be developed, which is the way many ranchers and farmers are going.

Bodega,
You are so right!! They don't look at all options and it becomes more political than anything else...
Did you know that "They" order the appraisals and don't let the people look at them?? Lucky for me I had a guy that had no idea of what he was doing and accidentally showed me my appraisal..Given that I was in mortgage for years I knew what I was looking at and I also knew about all the adjustments that were suppose to be made..
I fought to the end and had a hearing..At that hearing I had the opportunity to question the appraiser (which I knew from mtg so he knew I knew the answers before he even answered them)
He sat there and admitted to "forgetting to make certain adjustments"
Its amazing that they get away with this, most people don't have the knowledge of the business and also are afraid to go up against such people..
The attitude to most was "take the offer or leave it, but we are taking your house either way because the laws of eminient domain have told us we can" You could go for years without collecting if you fight and still have to leave the house and property that you bought...
I sure wish some of these people in politics would happen to be in one of these buyout areas and be required to be treated as they treat us!!
Off my soapbox now...lol
