View Full Version : Do you limit your travel destinations?

One of the things I wonder about is whether some have lost their zeal for domestic travel or not. I know I have, for various reasons, TSA hassles, Airline hassles, etc. I find traveling to other countries to be such a breath of fresh air sometimes (for example, I recently flew on JAL to Manila, and received outstanding treatment from both the crew and the airline).
So, the question is "Do you limit your travel destinations? And why?"

The only limits I place on my travel are those dealing with where I can get to, what I can afford and what is safe (by my definition of safe). Other than that, I will travel wherever and whenever I can arrange it.

There are so many places I have yet to explore that the only limits I allow myself are time, money, and safety. It would be sad to see everywhere else but to miss gems in my own country but at the same time it would be sad to miss out on the various gems you can find around the world.
I enjoy both domestic and international trips, but after the last couple of trips to Europe and the exchange rate, I've put more time into domestic routes.
There are of course, some destinations that are further down on the list of places I'd like to see, and others that I don't consider safe at this point in time, but some day...

Because I can't really afford to go anywhere spectacular (even though I want to go to Ireland and Austria), I usually take short trips to New York during the holidays to see my folks and also to Las Vegas to see my friend every year on his birthday.
The only exception is this coming February when I'll be going on a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas with a bonus trip to Disney World with my family.

So many places, so little money. If it's affordable and strikes my fancy, I'm going, whether it's on this side of the ocean or the other. I really want to get to Australia and now's the time to do it for the fares and the exchange rate, but I'm overbooked timewise. Oh, well...

I am based in Europe (Scotland) so it is relatively easy for me to make several trips to mainland Europe during the year.I would like to do trips further afield but budgetery and time contraints (at the moment) just do not allow this.

The only thing that limits my travel is $$ and having only 3 weeks vacation.

If I had the money and the time, I would be traveling all over. There are many places in S. America that I would like to go and some places in the caribbean. I guess I would also like to go to Ireland and Scotland.

Like most everyone else, money is the biggest limiting factor with vacation time-off somewhat of a concern.
Although there is Barcelona on the agenda for next month and a couple of long weekends in Ireland & Scotland early next Spring, The next "biggie" trip were working on is the somewhere in the South Pacific next May +/-.
What's the Mega-Lotto up to now???

Fiji is a wonderful spot, I would highly recommend it. BTW, you can fly from Honolulu to Nadi, Fiji in a little over 5 1/2 hours on Air Pacific. From there, you can get to practically anywhere in the South Pacific, or to Australia.

I'm lucky enough to be working at a company where I am the guy that travels overseas to start up new machines and train the customer in their use.
About once a month or so, someone from the sales department will come and ask me, "We got a quote request for anew machine from XXXX. Would you be wiliing to go?"
I have yet to say no.

Of course given the economic conditions, I think 09 is going to be a leaner travel year for us. With the stock market at rock bottom, we seem to doing more investing trying to take advantage of low stock prices. Unless the in-fighting stops and there is a family reunion cruise, we are just going to do road trips to Jamestown, Ny to visit my mom and sister. In '10, we want to try and do a week in Rome/Naples.

Well you would laugh if you knew my family. This cousin of mine(who considers Palin a liberal) has decided that the first family reunion that the family has had in 20 years should be in June when most schools in New York will still be in session. Considering that 80% live in New York and have school age children... Her reason is that this is the only time her son will be home from Iraq. My response is "Yes but then he goes to California for a month and then he he will be honorably discharged so what about August" insnt working. She wants to do a 3 day cruise out of MIA for the reunion because her son is only free for 6 days in june.
My sister and I just cant stop laughing.

I'm considering either a trip to Italy and Austria or Australia and New Zealand in late September. I have friends that are wanting me to meet them in Lake Como, Italy. But, if they can't make it, I'll go to Australia and New Zealand instead (I'd like to spend a couple of weeks photographing around Aoraki/Mt Cook on the South Island as well as the Central Otago region. I'll probably fly via Air New Zealand, which flies non-stop to Auckland once a week from Honolulu (or Air Pacific, via Fiji). If I go to Italy, I'm looking at flying China Airlines from Honolulu to Taipei, then Taipei to Rome, also on China Airlines.

As much as I love cruising, I'd find an excuse to be at work rather than cruise on a 3 night in June.

A 3day cruise is just not worth the cost unless you are close enough to drive to the port. I would give anything to see her face when she realizes that she just boarded a party boat. I once saw her refuse to eat at a resturant because they served booze.
