Where in Vancouver do you mean convenient? Downtown? airport area?
Depending on the time of year that you are travelling is a factor, don't be shy on spending a few more dollars for a decent hotel than one that might cost you more by getting to and from things you will be seeing.
Are you a CAA/AAA member? If not, check to compare regular rates vs the CAA/AAA rates (sometimes getting a membership will save you enough to justify spending the money to be a member).

I've used the Plaza 500, Sheraton Wall and Sandman hotels for folks on a budget. The Fairmount and Pan Pacific for those not worried about cost.
It would also help if you told us what you consider affordable.

If you are sailing out of Vancouver, the Days Inn is within walking distance of the port, but the hotel also has a free shuttle to take you down there.
The hotel itself is fine, not fancy but clean, comfortable and reasonable in price.
We've also stayed at Marriott's Residence Inn which is not as close to where the ships leave and the Renaissance and Pinnacle which both have great views of the harbor, but are not as reasonable in price.

I recall a Delta hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter/District that always priced reasonably and was fairly close to the pier.....
