For some unknown reason, even to me, I checked off "Are you returning with any meat products..." when I passed through Customs last Sunday. And to clarify, I scribbled "Candy" next to the question.

So the officer questioned me and after I explained, just duty free stuff. You know, Fazermints, ...he let me in. So never before having been given the third degree about candy I asked him why he asked.

Interestingly he said that people were now buying "meat candy" from China and bringing it back, which is not permitted. As nobody else was in line I pursued the issue and apparently they've just started questioning about that. Little pieces of raw meat apparently encased in sugar. We agreed it was weird and had a laugh.

So there ya go ... no meat candy if you want to get thru US Customs!

No problem for me. But it is interesting.

Thanks for the heads up, Kairho.

Frankly, "meat candy" sounds disgusting - just the sort of oddity that travelers want to bring back to their unsuspecting family & friends;) . Now I'll know to warn them ahead of time....

I was thinking it sounded vaguely obscene...
