I've had a mild obsession with Bill Engvall's career for at least 15 years. I was very excited to find his book Just a Guy: Notes from a Blue Collar Life. Rather than compile a book of schtick, he wrote an autobiography. Some of it's funny, some of it is completely unfunny but emotional. You can see where he got some of his stand-up bits (or perhaps he used his stand-up bits to embellish the book?) He talks about growing up in various places, his love of baseball, his parents' divorce and his father's subsequent remarriage, how he met his wife and the story of their 2 children. Editorially, I read that it's not a great book, but I certainly found it enjoyable.

Yup. Parasailing on vicodin washed down with an umbrella drink. It's a classic.

Actually, his Thunderbirds bit is now my #2 favorite routine of his, #1 will always be the first one I ever heard, the one where his plane hit the deer and he told his wife....

I think my favorite is his bit about a room full of snakes. And that came out long before Snakes on a Plane. I can just imagine how that would be modified now.

"I'm 38, I could give a damn. I'll wear the rubber pants..." (Which then, of course, dates that particular bit.)

I have heard the one about the plane and the deer, plus the one about flying with the Thunderbirds, but guess I don't remember the one about the snake.I will admit to enjoying Blue Collor Rides Again and wish they would do a new one. I enjoy when they sit together at the end of the show. Too funny.Someone gave my son a Jeff Foxworthy book several years ago and while I have read it several times, those redneck jokes still crack me up. Sadly, there are a few that hit too close to home. In fact, there are new tenants in a couple of houses down the road from me that could very easily be worked into his act. You ought to see the 'new' fence at one of the houses. Apparently, pallets can have multiple uses. At the other place, apparently the man of the house is handy with cars, buses, vans, trucks and just about anything on wheels. God what an eyesore! The county is getting called on this one!!

Actually I have a low tolerance for the Blue Collar Comedy Tour. Maybe because it resembles my family a bit too much? It's not as hysterical if you have to live it.

Actually my favorite is Ron White, with Bill Engvall a close second. I find Jeff Foxworthy only marginally tolerable and Larry the Cable Guy gets switched off at my house.

I had to go and look this guy up. I thought I'd never heard of him, but realized that I have heard the "Here's your sign" bit.
