View Full Version : The US District Court Settlement?
Hi,
Many of you have probably also rec'd the paperwork for the refund of excess fees charged by banks on foreign transactions related to charge and /or debit / ATM cards.
I just counted up my days outside the US between Feb 96 and Nov 2006 and came up with 175. I'm assuming it's better to use the 2nd form - the one that asks for number of days outside the country rather than the flat $25 refund provided if you use the 1st page of the forms?
Does anyone know for sure?

You mean, it's not how much money you charged? I just got it today. I dread going through it. Is it worth it?

Haven't received mine but Kairha got hers today.
They say that if you've been international more than a week that Option B or C are better. Option B needs only the total number of days away while C requires detailed expense counts.
So, assuming they are saying that a week would be worth $25, and in the absence of any more definitive reasoning, I would say that each day could be worth about $3.50. Which, at the 1% number they are bandying about, would assume a daily spend of $350.
Extending, the 175 days Teri spent could be worth something in the range of $600 (safely, more than $450?). As the information can be gotten from your passport(s) in no longer than a glass of wine, I would say it is definitely worth the effort. ...even if you have to ask the Judge to let you look at the passport for a bit.
I figured option B would be the best. You guys who travel extensively for business are probably going to have to provide more info - but then, they can likely get the history easier.
It will likely end up with some sort of coupons. The last time I remember one of these things, we had a bunch of coupons that never got used...

I read it today and cannot even begin to imagine trying to use option C. I have a hard time remembering what I had for lunch today, trying to go back and piece together every receipt since 1996? Option B for me.
At first I thought I would only have a few weeks to account for, then I remembered the 13 weeks I spent in Germany, or the MANY trips to Mexico and Canada.....somehow I never considered those trips as International in my head until recently.
I have my schedules for the last decade on my computer, so I can go back and count how many days I was out of the country. Never thought I would ever need those.
