We are planning our vacation next year and my wife mentioned "how about Singapore?". Any comments or suggestions?

Nice place to visit for a long layover but for a vacation, I don't know as there is enough to do to be a great vacation in of itself. It isn't a bad place to use as a jump off point to visit Malaysia and Thailand and such but as an end point, it's not one that excites me.

Great city, especially as an introduction to Asia. Super food and lots of things to do. But fairly well sanitized, modern and, well, perfect. Good for 3 - 5 days. But you would definitely want to combine it with something else such as Bali?

Even better, IMO, are Hong Kong and Bangkok. Depends a lot on what your (her?) goals are. I've been to all those (6 times to SIN alone!), plus Seoul, so have a bit of knowledge.....

Have to agree with most of the above. Singapore is a good starting point for that area. I would look at a trip to Penang as a good addition. Bali is one of my favorites and if you are looking for a very different king of trip Jogyakarta, Indonesia is one of the most interesting places in that part of the world.
