Bammm!!!!!
I think after 10 years on the air, his shtick became tiring, and his audience has dropped off.
I love his enthusiasm, his love of good food, his love of his audience, and the careful way he explains what he's doing, and how to fix it if it's off, but...I have found over the last couple of years, that his dishes lack the innovation and originality which they had in the first 8 years of his show. The band is fabulous though.
If you see him in person, on one of his shows, his personality bubbles, and since 2004, he no longer smells like he just smoked a pack of cigarettes in the last 5 minutes. He gave them up that year. He does smoke an occasional cigar after dinner these days.

I'll tell ya'll a secret, or maybe it isn't. Most native New Orleanians don't like him, and never have.

He is a great entertainer. As far as a chef...he does not excite me. I borrowed one of his cookbooks a few years ago, not impressed.

I used to enjoy his show, until the Food Network switched timeslots.
I also heard rumors from my family that when he was a college student at Johnson and Wales, that he interned briefly at my family's catering shop. I can understand why he didn't last long. Pork fat just doesn't have a place in a Kosher catering shop.
Now that he has been on for 10 years, its time to move on.
I'm not a huge Emeril fan but have been to a few of his restaurants. I'm sure that he has nothing to worry about financially! I do enjoy watching Wolfgang Puck on HSN and have a couple of his appliances. I seldom watch cooking shows but I do enjoy what little I have seen of Paula Dean.
For those who like to watch cooking shows, if you want to get some really good practical advice, and excellent recipes which will work in a home kitchen, I heartily recommend "America's Test Kitchen" which is most often shown on various PBS stations.
