For some reason I am unable to open any columns, past or present.
Is it just Me?

You're not the only one. I get weird formatting and no column either.

Ditto. Odd formatting, can't read the columns. At first I thought it was just new formatting, then I thought it was just me. I'm glad to know it's in the system and thus likely to change!

I have the odd formatting too and it looks like the columns aren't there, but scroll waaaaay down and they are there....

Same here. Front page is a big ole' mess.

I think it's those of us using Internet Explorer that have had the most recent update.

I am checking into it.

Hi All,
Everything looks like it's back to normal. How about the rest of you, does it look okay?

Hi Empress. Are you now able to open the columns? Is there any particular person's column which you can open? Which browser are you suing?

Let me know I and I can look into this further.

Same for me - if I click on Columns the page comes up. I cannot open Chris Elliot's column, (the read more link) but all the others do open.

I'm on IE7. The home page is back to normal, but when I click on the Read this article link to bring up the entire column for Chris what comes up is that funky formating we had before. Again, I have to scroll way down to get to the actual column.

T & E, I can't duplicate your problem myself, in either IE or Firefox, but I'd like you to try something before I try to get the programmer on this as quickly as I can.

Please empty your browser's cache and see if that helps.

In Firefox you go to Tools > Options > Advanced. Then click on the Network Tab. On that tab you will see a button entitled "Clear Now" which will empty the cache. Click on the button, and when the hour glass goes away the cache will be empty. Click on OK. Then try to get into Chris' column again.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options. Click on the "Delete Files" button. Click on the checkbox for "Delete all offline content." Click on "OK". When the hour glass goes away the cache will be empty. Then click OK. Then try to get into Chris' column again.

Let me know what happens and we can go from there to find out what's going on at our end.

OK I dumped my files, no luck. Still can"t open Chris' column or the Tripso Today piece. I can open the older columns

Thanks for trying. I'm going to get the programmer on this.

Thanks for trying. I'm going to get the programmer on this.

Just to note backup, I can't access Chris' column on IE7 after dumping my cache either, Ned. So it's not an isolated incident.

It's all the way down in the middle of the page, keep scrolling.

I have sent a message for our programmer. I don't know how long it will take to fix this, as it's the weekend, but we are trying. I will continue to try to duplicate the problem so I can give more direction technically, but so far it keeps working for me.

My own company does web site programming, and I can tell you that some of these problems are insidious. We had one today where about 15% of a site's visitors couldn't view a particular file starting about 3 days after it was posted, but others could. It took us about 18 hours of work (thank goodness it was billable) to find the problem. Unfortunately the way the new link code was structured it would work for AOL, IE6 and below, Opera and Firefox, but not IE7 in special cases. After testing various scenarios we found the incompatible code and rewrote it.

I relate this story to explain that while we will definitely have it worked on, we can't promise an instant solution.

Thanks Terry. That's very helpful. It seems to be strictly an IE7 problem. Knowing that, and your helpful post will assist us to get this squared away more quickly.

Thanks. I don't know if this is good news or not, however, I've now been able to duplicate the problem. I'll be sending my additional information in and hope that can speed the fix on the formatting. It's definitely a formatting issue.

For anyone who cares to, at least temporarily, if you switch to Firefox, the pages will appear properly.

We'll get this squared away as soon as we can.

By the way, in my opinion, IE7 is a piece of junk. Stay away from it as long as you can.

We understand the problem and as I mentioned somewhere in the thread have now been able to duplicate the problem. We have alerted the programmer and are working on the solution. Please bear with us. Thanks.

I had to put it on one computer, just to see what it looked like, 'cause the computer in FL was set to update automatically. When it offered an update, my husband said "yes" - then got crazy 'cause everything was different. I don't like it either and don't use it much.

It also plays havoc with network security settings when IE7 is installed, if you're connecting computers together, even on a simple home network.

Tell me about it. I was convinced to update just one PC and then it took me two days with the assist of a tech friend to get my LAN back up and the settings tweaked so that my various work programs were operational again.

I wish they would just cut it out. Not everyone is capable of or wishing to start over all again with every stupid update.

Just thank the lucky stars that you're not using Vista, especially on a laptop. Vista is a disaster. If Microsoft is smart they're going to move on to the next Windows OS after Vista as soon as possible and continue to sell XP the whole time. I have customers who have told me they rather go to the expense of moving to Linux or the MAC, before they'd consider Vista for even a millisecond.

Ned, I've been considering the same thing. The new Macbooks are nice. Plus with Parallels or VMware, I can run Windows on it.

If only the hardware wasn't so expensive.

Ned

I have sold some MacBook Pros. I recommend them only to Mac people who want to be able to run Windows XP for any one of a variety of reasons. I don't recommend them to Windows people because I don't see the point of them in that case. A PC designed to run XP will run it better and faster, and will be far less expensive.

In my opinion, it is a myth that the MacBook Pro can run XP as well as a PC designed specifically to run XP.

For people with an extensive library of Windows OS programs I tell them to stick with XP unless they are prepared to purchase the Mac versions of the software. If I'm running a Mac, I want to primarily run the Mac OS and run Mac software.

We believe we have the columns problem fixed. If you still have the problem when you try the columns, please completely clear your cache (instruction are above in another of my posts in this thread) the close and restart your browser.

After doing that, if you continue to have the problem, please let us know right away.

If I don't hear from anyone by late tonight who continues to have the problem, I'm going to assume everything is working and I'll close the thread.

If the thread is closed and the problem persists for you, please feel free to open a new thread or PM me directly.

Regards to all.
