Is anyone familiar with the bus system in Downtown Salt Lake City?

I'll be staying at the Residence Inn - 285 West Broadway (300S)
in January and cannot figure out whether there's a bus that goes to/near Temple Square. When I look at the bus routes, they all seem to turn off somewhere along the way.
I was there last January and froze walking to the library each morning.
This January, I'll be better prepared for the walk, but a bus would be nice.

(I know there are hotels that are nearer, but I need the Marriott points
and there's a bonus as well)

You are on 3rd West and 3rd South, you can take the 3rd South bus, heading east to Main Street (three blocks) and catch the Trax train heading north (uphill) to Temple Square, which is about 3 blocks.

Or you can catch the 3rd South bus heading east and connect to a number of north bound buses on West Temple (2 blocks east of your hotel) and get off between 1st and 2nd South, which is about a block and a half south of Temple Square. I wouldn't recommend it since the block just south of Temple Square is being demolished and work is starting on a new giant shopping area.

You are in the free fare zone so you don't have to pay for the bus or Trax as long as you are between 5th South and North Temple and between 3rd West and 2nd East.

January here can be really nice or really nasty depending on if we are suffering with an inversion or not. If not, day time highs hit the mid 40s, if we are (which we have had bad ones the last two Januarys) day time highs get into the teens and twenties.

At 3rd West and 3rd South you are near a number of places to eat that are decent and you about two blocks from the Gateway Shopping complex that has a bunch of places to eat. Depending on your tastes and budget I can suggest a wide variety of places for your dining pleasure.

Please feel free to call upon me if you need any additional information.

Thanks! I've copied your info and put it with the things I'll be taking.
My biggest problem was that most of the info I've been able to find would tell you where the bus was going to end up eventually, but not show how it got there.

Downtown SLC is pretty easy to get around as it is just a big square grid and the blocks aren't huge. There are several other ways to get from your hotel to Temple Square, including going north on 3rd West to North Temple and then catching the eastbound bus however I don't believe that the service is as frequent.

Another thought, the hotel may have a courtesy shuttle that will run you to and from at no charge. I know a lot of the downtown hotels have shuttles that will take you around the downtown area, including things like Trolley Square, which in my view is outside of downtown however it is a tourist destination.
