Introducing Snap Shots from Snap.com
I just installed a nice little tool on this site called Snap Shots that enhances links with visual previews of the destination site (http://www.snap.com/), interactive excerpts of Wikipedia articles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picasso), MySpace profiles (http://www.myspace.com/askaninja), IMDb profiles (http://imdb.com/name/nm0424060) and Amazon products (http://www.amazon.com/Nokia-N95-Silver-Phone-Unlocked/dp/B000PEOLAG/), display inline videos (http://youtube.com/watch?v=7rEM_dN24S0), RSS (http://www.slashdot.org/), MP3s (http://wiredset.com/media/colin_macintyre/How-Bout-I-Love-You-More.mp3), photos (http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/perspexspaceship/), stock charts (http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=aapl) and more (http://shots.snap.com/).
Sometimes Snap Shots bring you the information you need, without your having to leave the site, while other times it lets you "look ahead," before deciding if you want to follow a link or not.
Should you decide this is not for you, just click the Options icon in the upper right corner of the Snap Shot and opt-out.

Well that would be great, except that I use Netscape for viewing the forum and I can't get the little popup thing to even display properly nevermind disable the option! I'd really love to because it's screwing up the "back" feature on the browser when viewing the forum!
I can only suggest to use Firefox instead of Netscape. It's much better anyway.

Of course, now that I closed my Firefox, and brought it up again those lousy things are no longer disabled. They're starting to pi$$ me off.

I am not downloading yet another browser just so that I can view this one site. Sorry. And I have to say that if this were any other site then I wouldn't be anxious to come back to it.

Awww she likes us! SHe really really likes us!
From the snap.com site
Q: How can I turn Snap Shots on or off?
A: Bring up one of the windows and mouse to the little sun looking thing. Select options and then you can select disable. You can also set the delay to long and the window will not pop up unless hovered over for a long while. Please note you must reload the page or clear your cache for the change to take effect. Deactivation uses cookies, so if you delete your cookies, Snap Shots will be re-activated for all sites.

Nope, all clicking that does is take me to a search page. I still can't disable them.
ETA: Normally I read a thread and then hit "back" to go back to the listing. I can't do that anymore because of whatever it is that snapwhatever is doing. Instead of being one page back the listing is 6 pages back, and just hitting "back" on my browser now does nothing when on this site.

Of course the question is, if you've disabled them and decide later on, it would be cool to have, how do you turn them back on?
Edit: Scratch that. I looked in the mod forum and found out.

I find the pages load slowly now.
I agree with CE. I have a 10MB/Sec Internet connection, yet now that the SnapShot is there, my pages have a definite delay in loading, and the more links on the page, the slower the page loads. It's also extremely hard to turn them off, which I'm sure the company has designed into their product.
I'm for eliminating them.

Well, I finally got mine to stay deactivated for the most part but it seems to hiccup every now and then and boom, there they are.
The slow downloading of pages is kind of a drag, so I must regretfully say "nay."

It's slow loading and actually my whole laptop slows down when I'm on the site.

Cool or not, I don't need it.... Doesn't seem to really affect me.

I'm running Firefox with Adblock (there are some sites that are just too painful otherwise), and haven't seen these things. I guess I'm lucky.

I find them distracting and rather annoying.
Another vote for getting rid of them John! Thanks for trying and always thinking about us but they really do slow things down, I don't like them either and can't seem to get the 'opt out' to stick.
