Since Pillars of the Earth I've been sampling Follett. I know, late to the party, but I'm not much of a fiction reader, unless it's historical fiction.

So "A Place Called Freedom" sounded pretty appealing to me from the description and it did not disappoint. I sat down late yesterday afternoon and read it cover to cover with only a short dinner break.

This author is nothing short of brilliant in his ability to develop a cast of characters then weave them into the fabric of a vividly described period of history. This novel richly illustrates the social and political conditions in Europe (primarily Britain) that led up to the surge to the American colonies and their subsequent revolt against the crown. It's so enjoyable to have the details of your old history lessons played out on the pages with such gripping personal stories.
