Any remaining questions or concerns on the software? I am getting the hang of it now -- after a full week plus. So how are you all doing?

Well - I'm still not getting the posts marked as read - but it seems to only happenin the TA forum now. All other places I use a board like this works ok - so I know it's not how I have my 'puter set up

OK, so you are saying that it is wsorking fine in other sections of this board. Only in the TA sections? Can you determine if it is all forums or specific forums?
And to confirm, you are cool if you use the NEW POSTS from the main screen and the MARK FORUMS AS READ off the pull down QUICK LINKS.
The issue is when you are in a thread and using the pull down in the FORUM TOOLS and select MARK FORUM AS READ.

Actually it could be either my firewall, IE7, cookies, computer, whatever, but every time I go out and come back, it still shows unread even though I've read it.
How I mark the section read is one of two ways:
1) I go up level by level. For example, in this forum, I would click on WHAT'S NEW ON TRIPSO, then click on Hot Topics, then click on Tripso Forums.
or (if I know there are no new posts in that area)
2) I double-click on the bulletin board icon.
I think the board software is not smart enough (again, it could be me) to realize that if I reply, then I already read it, because when I go up a level, it says that there is a new post, and, of course, the new post, is the one I just posted.

Stephen---do me a favor and try this method for a bit....
Click on the NEW POSTS ocon off the top menu bar. THis will display all new posts across the forum for all areas in which you have permission. Read at will and reply as much as you want.
When you are done (say you are going to lunch) grab the QUICK LINKS also off that top menu bar and select MARK FORUMS READ.
Give it some time and log back in or click the NEW POSTS link and see if it does it.
This is the way I typically view the board and then just scan the topics and pop into the ones that interes me

Nice to know someone else is having the same problem!
Ok - the way I use this board (and others of the same software) I have the main index bookmarked on my IE - that way I can at a glance know what forums have new messages.
I do NOT use the "new posts" button. I go into the forum and click on the thread I want to read. When I'm done - they show "non-bolded" to indicate I have read them. Sometimes I even will hit the "mark this forum read" from within the forum just to make sure. But when I leave and come back - there they are again and if I click on the little v mark to the left of the topic is takes me to the point where I entered previously.
It seems to work on a 24 hour clock - because it is only the posts for the day that revive themselves.
The only way I can get them to go away is if I go to the top of the index and hit "mark all forums read" - but it seems that sometimes doesn't work either.
It can't be my computer becasue as I say other boards that use this software seem to work ok for me.

I think we solved it BABS--we just don't like you as much as the other boards! :)
I have put a ticket into VBulletin to see if they know of a glitch. Sorry

:( (sniff sniff)
Oh and to answer the question - yes it seems to only be happening for me in the TA board.

Cool---now I will go look at permission sets for the TA section versus the other one! I love a good mystery!

Will check. You ought to but you have to put the code in like <font color=red>LIKE THIS</Font>

You mean I can't have a little button to click on - like the quotes and stuff? You're gonna make me have to remember more formats????
jfrenaye
11-22-2006, 01:18 PM
You should be fine..when you create the signature there should be formatting tools and so forth above the box. THe globe with the paperclip is to insert a link, there is bold, color, font, size, and image loading. Images are restricted to a fairly small size and the length of the signature is also limited

Hi Nicole.
I suspect you need to do the following:
Click on the top menu item "User CP" (Control Panel) which is the first one in the row.
Under "Settings and Options" click on "User Options."
The second section is "Messaging & Notification."
The third section there is "Private Messaging."
The first box there is "Enable Private Messaging."
Click on it to put a check in it.
Go to the bottom of the page and click on the "Save Changes Button."
That should do it. Please let me know if it works or not. If it doesn't we'll go from there.

You have turned off private messages. You may not view or send private messages until you turn them on by editing your profile.
I'll try what Ned has said and let you know...
This is what I have under "settings and options"
Settings & OptionsEdit Signature (http://www.tripso.com/forum/profile.php?do=editsignature)Edit Email & Password (http://www.tripso.com/forum/profile.php?do=editpassword)Edit Profile (http://www.tripso.com/forum/profile.php?do=editprofile)Edit Options (http://www.tripso.com/forum/profile.php?do=editoptions)Edit Avatar (http://www.tripso.com/forum/profile.php?do=editavatar)Edit Profile Picture (http://www.tripso.com/forum/profile.php?do=editprofilepic)

That didn't work.. I edited my last post but it's kinda garbled.. I don't have the option "user options" under "settings and options"
so I don't know where to go...
My bad. My mind was in too many places while I typed it. I bolded the line that's changed.
Try this:
Click on the top menu item "User CP" (Control Panel) which is the first one in the row.
Under "Settings and Options" click on "Edit Options."
The second section is "Messaging & Notification."
The third section there is "Private Messaging."

By the way Nicole, I see you have turned off receiving private messages. If you want to be able to receive them that's the 2nd box in the Messaging & Notification section.

I don't like it that every thread I post to, I am automatically subscribed to. Is there any way to turn this off? I prefer to choose which threads I subscribe to, otherwise it makes the subscribed threads link worthless to me.

Yes you can change that option in your Control Panel, under Edit Options, in the "Messaging and Notification" section. Just change the Default Thread Subscription Mode to Do Not Subscribe.
You can also unsubscribe to the any of the threads to which you're currently subscribed. On the left side of your control panel, you'll see a link to "List Subscriptions." Click on it and you'll immediately see how to delete subscriptions.

I know how to remove the subscriptions. But it's annoying that I currently have to do it each time I post to a new thread.

I don't have an option to "Do Not Subscribe." The only option it gives me is to choose whether or not I am notified of new posts on subscribed threads.
Edited to add: Well I said that and I checked one more time and the "Do Not Subscribe" option appeared. Thanks!

We're glad you saw it. Did you see how to unsubscribe, so you won't continue to get all the emails when people post in your subscribed threads?

Ned, I've always known how to unsubscribe. It was just annoying to have to go in and unsubscribe each time I posted to a new thread.
